近年来各类学术刊物层出不穷，sci、ssci、ei、scopus、会议论文、中文核心等不断涌现，但也有一些作者对各类刊物的划分并不是特别明确，咨询外国期刊ei是什么?ei并不是指的某本期刊，而是一个数据库，是大型综合性检索工具，文章更侧重工程类。
EI论文分为两类，分别为会议论文(CA)和期刊论文(JA)。EI(JA)即发表在EI期刊上的文章，被EI检索，检索类型为 Journal article JA;EI(CA)即为发表于EI会议上的文章，发表于会议论文集被EI的检索类型为Conference article CA。JA和CA两者之间存在着较大差异， JA的认可度和含金量普遍高于CA。
关于EI期刊和SCI期刊的认知也是容易出现误区的，EI期刊在质量要求和认可度都是能与SCI相媲美的，在高校或者单位划类中都是同为一类期刊。发表在EI期刊上的文章，其含金量其实与大部分3区、4区的SCI论文相当，文章若可以发表于EI的顶级期刊，更高于大部分SCI期刊。尤其是针对特定学科，如计算机领域，发表于其顶级会议的文章，也并不一定代表比发表于期刊上的文章差。
